Inside SASIB Project Management: turning collaboration into successful projects
At SASIB, every project is a journey shaped by collaboration, flexibility and continuous dialogue between people.
To better understand how innovation takes form in the development of advanced machinery for the tobacco industry, we spoke with colleagues from Engineering, Project Management and Assembly departments — exploring the process behind a key tool we use: our Design Review approach.
How are projects managed at SASIB?
Effective project management relies on continuous coordination between functions, ensuring that activities progress in a structured and transparent way throughout the entire project lifecycle.
Through regular review milestones and ongoing cross-functional collaboration, teams maintain visibility of project progress, support decision-making and remain aligned on shared objectives.
This is how Michela, Associate Project Manager, explains the importance of transforming a shared vision into a structured roadmap that supports project execution from planning through completion.
How does SASIB ensure project alignment?
A key element of effective project governance is the implementation of regular Project Reviews.
More than simple status updates, Project Reviews are structured management forums designed to monitor project progress, assess schedule performance, control costs, manage risks, and support timely decision-making.
The review process is typically conducted at two levels:
- Internal Project Reviews, involving Project Management and key business stakeholders to evaluate project status, budget consumption, milestone achievement, forecast deviations, and required corrective actions.
- Customer Project Reviews, where progress, timelines, costs, risks, and open actions are transparently discussed with the customer to ensure alignment on project objectives and expectations throughout the project lifecycle.
Regular Project Reviews promote visibility, accountability, proactive issue management, and effective governance, helping to keep projects on schedule, within budget, and aligned with stakeholder expectations.
Why is collaboration so important in project management?
Effective project management is built on communication and shared visibility.
Davide, Assembly Team Leader, highlights how interactions between departments strengthen collaboration while fostering a greater sense of ownership and accountability.
By creating dedicated moments for discussion and alignment, teams can anticipate potential issues, coordinate activities more effectively and maintain a clear overview of project progress.
This collaborative approach supports faster decision-making, improved efficiency and stronger alignment around shared objectives.
How are risks and project challenges managed?
A successful project requires the ability to identify and address challenges before they impact execution.
One of SASIB’s strengths is the close integration between Project Management, Engineering and Assembly teams.
Riccardo, Mechanical Designer, explains how in-house prototyping and 3D printing capabilities allow teams to evaluate and validate solutions before final production, helping reduce uncertainties and support informed decision-making.
This proactive approach contributes to mitigating risks, accelerating development and improving project outcomes.
What makes SASIB’s project management approach unique?
One of the distinguishing elements of SASIB’s project management approach is the continuous involvement of the customer.
Through regular reviews and structured communication, projects evolve in close collaboration with the client, ensuring that objectives, priorities and expectations remain aligned throughout the process.
As Riccardo explains, the customer is an integral part of the process, allowing projects to evolve together towards a tailored solution.
At its core, SASIB’s approach is built on three fundamental principles:
- Transparency
- Communication
- Collaboration
These values help create an environment where people, expertise and shared objectives come together to deliver successful projects and tailored solutions for customers worldwide.
